happy-quotes

Welcome to HappyQuotes.net, the haven of all things positive! Though I have tons of quotations on happiness to share with you, I’m compelled to include only 10 quotes per post and will add new posts at least every other day.

Why? I believe these quotes are worthless if you’re just reading it.  We all should digest it, understand its depth in its simplest form, and most of all APPLY them to our daily lives, both in personal and professional setting. Only then can we change our lives for the better. I hope you understand my point. If not, no worries!

Without much ado, here are the first 10 happy quotes to set the ball rolling:

Unhappiness is not knowing what we want and killing ourselves to get it. Don Herold

Even if happiness forgets you a little bit, never completely forget about it. - Jacques Prévert

Being happy doesn’t mean that everything is perfect. It means that you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections. – Author Unknown

Happiness is always a by – product. It is probably a matter of temperament, and for anything I know it may be glandular. But it is not something that can be demanded from life, and if you are not happy you had better stop worrying about it and see what treasures you can pluck from your own brand of unhappiness. - Robertson Davies

You just have to do your own thing, no matter what anyone says. It’s your life. - Ethan Embry

A Simple Experiment on Happiness

January 18th, 2010

The New York Times has an interesting article about happiness and how it affects our well-being. Here are some of the interesting points of this short article:

“Human beings are in some ways like bees,” Professor Haidt said. “We evolved to live in intensely social groups, and we don’t do as well when freed from hives.”

…Brain scans by neuroscientists confirm that altruism carries its own rewards. A team including Dr. Jorge Moll of the National Institutes of Health found that when a research subject was encouraged to think of giving money to a charity, parts of the brain lit up that are normally associated with selfish pleasures like eating or sex.

The implication is that we are hard-wired to be altruistic. To put it another way, it’s difficult for humans to be truly selfless, for generosity feels so good.
